One size, both systems. Convert bits and bytes into decimal kB, MB, GB, TB and PB, alongside binary KiB, MiB, GiB, TiB and PiB. Keep large numbers exact and see what each unit means.
Your values are calculated on your device. This tool does not upload or save your inputs. Refreshing or switching languages clears them. The site uses Google Analytics for page visits.

1 bit = 0.125 B
1 B = 8 bit
1 kB = 1,000 B
1 KiB = 1,024 B
1 MB = 1,000,000 B
1 MiB = 1,048,576 B
1 GB = 1,000,000,000 B
1 GiB = 1,073,741,824 B
1 TB = 1,000,000,000,000 B
1 TiB = 1,099,511,627,776 B
1 PB = 1,000,000,000,000,000 B
1 PiB = 1,125,899,906,842,624 B
Here, 1 kB = 1000 bytes and 1 KiB = 1024 bytes. Decimal prefixes increase by 1000; binary prefixes increase by 1024. “KB” is a common informal label whose meaning varies across software. This selector uses unambiguous kB and KiB, so check which convention your source uses.
They describe different-sized units. One GB is 1,000,000,000 bytes; one GiB is 1,073,741,824 bytes. The same byte count therefore has a smaller numeric value in GiB. Changing units does not change the amount of data.
1 GiB = 1.073741824 GB
One byte (B) is 8 bits. For example, 1 bit is 0.125 B and 1000 B is 8000 bits. Fractional byte results are mathematical conversions; actual file sizes measured in bytes are whole numbers of bytes. This tool converts amounts of data, not transfer rates or download times.
Display precision limits fractional digits, not significant digits. Values are rounded half up, and unnecessary trailing zeros are removed. The ≈ marker appears only when rounding changes the value. A tiny positive result may display as ≈ 0 at low precision. Open Exact value to see the full, unrounded decimal.
Copy displayed keeps the approximation marker and unit. Copy exact includes every digit and the unit, regardless of display precision.
No binary floating-point conversion is used for your number. Decimal input is calculated with BigInt integer arithmetic, preserving large values such as 9007199254740993 B. All supported unit ratios have terminating decimal expansions, so the exact view can show every digit.
Zero, integers and decimals are accepted, including .5 and 1. Surrounding spaces are trimmed. Use a dot as the decimal separator. Do not enter signs, grouping commas, internal spaces, scientific notation, or a suffix such as MB. The limit is 128 characters after trimming and 4096 characters before trimming.
Examples only fill an empty input, so they cannot replace your draft. Clear the value before trying another example. Editing a number, source unit or precision clears the old result.
1000 B = 1 kB = 0.9765625 KiB
1 MiB = 1.048576 MB
1 bit = 0.125 B
1 TB = 1000 GB
The paired results put decimal and binary units together, with each unit’s byte factor shown. Unit labels are case-sensitive: B means byte.
